19.06.19 Cambodia Film and Fan Trails in Siem Reap
On 19th-22nd June 2019, the project team visited Siem Reap in Cambodia to explore the film trails and fan engagement from the actual site. Places we visited include the location used for the shooting of Tomb Raider (2001) and In the Mood for Love (2000) which are part of the UNESCO Angkor Wat heritage site.
Apart from the temples, we also explored commercial/business sites visited by film stars which later added a layer of story-telling for those visting the town. While there are much to be said about the vibility and invisibility of certain stories related to the site, the incoporation of Tomb Raider into the tour guide narrative at Ta Prohm Temple is a very distinct example of how popular culture stimulate participations to the historical site.
